Carrick Bannockburn Chardonnay

Carrick Vineyards, Bannockburn, Central Otago

This is classic Chardonnay, inviting and unctuous. It is barrel fermented, and aged in oak for around 10 months, which gives the wine time to develop the delicious nutty and biscuity characters. Perfect for enjoying slightly chilled with cheese, a creamy pasta or just by itself after a long day.

A tightly structured chardonnay; the delicately lifted bouquet shows Gala apple, grapefruit, dried grass, oatmeal and almond characters. The palate displays elegant weight and rounded mouthfeel, backed by firm acidity, offering sturdy structure and a persistent chalky finish. At its best: now to 2023. - Sam Kim, Wine Orbit

The 2016 harvest was warm and long and is expressed in the bottle by a softer acidity than usual, as well as roundness. After gentle whole-bunch pressing, the chardonnay juice was gravity fed into French oak barrels, (10% new) with a high grape solids content to add interest and texture. All barrels were fermented with indigenous yeast and stirred daily during fermentation.

The result of spending 10 months in barrel, is this delicious Chardonnay which has notes of citrus, alongside stone-fruit characters. The palate is textural, precise and long. It is a wine with minerality and excellent length.

This is classic Chardonnay, inviting and unctuous.
