Cliff Wickman

Vineyard Manager

Cliff Wickman is the Head of Viticulture and General Manager of Carrick Wines Ltd.

Holding the reins of the Carrick vineyards, his vision is to build vine and soil health through organic farming to create stunning, elegant wines that speak of place. He joined Carrick in mid-2018 after seeing the light and coming home from Australia’s Yarra Valley.  

With a love of horticulture, Cliff found his way to viticulture by way of most other industries. Despite wanting to be involved with winegrowing by the age of 15, he took seven years in other fields before studying it. He’s now Carrick’s resident expert in everything mechanical, building, plumbing, engineering and viticulture!

Cliff sees himself as a caretaker of the land while also pulling strings in the background of the office and loves being part of a small team that breathes organic and sustainable farming. He’s delighted to have the help of a great vineyard team to keep the property in shape and vines in balance. A complete team player, some days it feels like he does everything, other days it feels like he gets nothing done at all.

When not in the vineyard as a jack of all trades, Cliff is often found tinkering with projects in his shed.

Rosie Menzies


Rosie Menzies joined Carrick in late 2018. Originally from Hawke’s Bay, Rosie’s interest in wine was sparked by her charismatic 6th form chemistry teacher, who tasked students with making their own wine as a special project. Inspired to make it her career, she completed the Graduate Diploma in Viticulture and Oenology at Lincoln University in 2007. Since graduating, Rosie has worked at some of the world’s finest producers – Craggy Range (Hawke’s Bay), Seresin (Marlborough), GD Vajra (Piemonte, Italy), Chapoutier (Rhone Valley), and Cristom (Oregon).

Her travels around the globe also developed her respect for the influence of organic principles in  wine farming and production, a quality that is inherent to Carrick. “It creates the best possible raw ingredients, but it’s also important as guardians of our land to bring life to the soils, which in turn support our vines.”

The 2020 vintage marks her first harvest at Carrick as Chief Winemaker.

Catherine Douglas

Sales & Marketing Manager

Catherine Douglas began her wine career in Central Otago in 2005 and subsequently built on that experience in the Willamette Valley, Oregon, USA and in the Okanagan Valley, BC, Canada. She has held roles in Marketing & Communications, Brand Management, and Export Sales at some of the world’s best New World Pinot Noir producers.

She joined the Carrick team in 2021 upon her return to New Zealand and is charged with amplifying the brand both domestically and abroad. She feels fortunate to be part of the close-knit team taking this legacy Central Otago wine brand to the next level.

Solange (Sol) Felix de Souza

Cellar Door Manager

Sol as she is known, arrived in New Zealand from her home country Brazil early September 2006. She then decided to travel down to Central Otago to join the wine industry and has been The Cellar Door Manager with Carrick Wines and Restaurant in Central Otago for a few years now.

She feels thankful for the opportunity to be part of and living within Central Otago while supporting the wine industry and company that she has grown to love and respect so much.

Sol is the first port of call if you are after a bottle or two of Carrick. She continually raids our library and is always happy to advise you on what to have, when.

Gwen Harvie

Head Chef

Gwen has loved cooking since childhood growing up on an Otago hill country farm where the kitchen was the hub of the homestead. Her career has been shaped by travelling and cooking round the globe. A highlight was working at a Michelin star restaurant in London. Gwen was excited to take on the Head Chef role at Carrick Christmas 2012. 

Some of her favourite things about Carrick are being able to observe the seasonal changes in vineyard & our garden. Central Otago’s abundance of seasonal produce. The friendly team environment.  Her connection to Bannockburn - her Nana’s family settled here during the gold rush.  Finally last but definitely not least and the stunning wines.

It is this attention to seasonal and local produce which compliments the wine and surroundings, which has seen her kitchen team win several awards.
