When experiencing fine wine in such a special place – the world’s southernmost grape-growing region – you want to do it in style. One of the premium tours here is the Heliview Flights package that takes in six vineyards via helicopter and Jeep, complete with winery lunch. If you’d prefer a hit of adrenaline before your tasting, Goldfields Jet offers a high-octane 40-minute thrill ride on the water followed by a leisurely cruise to Carrick. Seeking a more sedate option? The 4 Barrels Walking Wine Trail takes in four vineyards, including Aurum Wines, where you can sign up for a private tasting and tour with the winemaker. Other wineries worth visiting include Te Kano, with its new multi-million-dollar tasting facility, and perennial favourite Mt Difficulty, both in Bannockburn. Como Villa, a quirky historic destination near Alexandra, also promises to leave a lasting impression.
