Carrick Crown and Cross Pinot Noir

Central Otago

The Crown and Cross is a Pinot Noir produced from grapes which we purchase from a special, different site each year. It provides  an opportunity to explore the various sub-regions of Central Otago.

Clones: 115
Alcohol: 13.5%
Harvest Dates: 14th April 2016
Bottled: March 2016

The 2016 Carrick Crown and Cross was made from fruit from a vineyard in Alexandra, and produced in our own Bannockburn Winery.
The wine was matured for around 10 months in French oak, of which about 20%
was new wood.

The name is derived from the Crown and Cross gold mine in the Carrick Range.
Mining was risky and the rewards were unpredictable. There was potential to earn
royal rewards ( THE Crown), but the reward may be deferred until the next life ( The Cross).

The wine exhibits ripe red fruit characters, with fine tannins and savoury notes.
Already drinking well it will benefit with some cellaring of 5+ years.
