The Carrick Wines | Lowest Price

We are a small winery with a focus on Organic farming and Pinot Noir. We grow everything we make and make all of our wines on site. Our oldest vines on our property are now 25 years old and many are planted on their own roots. Our aim is to make wines which are expressive of our place and the season. We therefore carefully select each bunch that comes into the winery and only use native vineyard yeasts to ferment our wines. Barrel ageing is also a key component in many of our wines and provides further layers and complexity.

Carrick Sauvignon Blanc

Bannockburn

Although Sauvignon Blanc is not automatically associated with Central Otago, we have been producing this wine from our Bannockburn vineyards since 2000. We find that the naturally low yields provide us with clean, ripe fruit ideal for making a food friendly style.

Carrick Unravelled Pinot Noir image

Carrick Unravelled Pinot Noir

Carrick Vineyards, Bannockburn, Central Otago

Carrick Unravelled is our early drinking offering for Pinot Noir lovers. The name references the Carrick Bend our symbol of the union between our people and the land, here it is a metaphor for the more relaxed style of this wine. It's essentially a declassification of wine from the Carrick vineyards, so has all the care and attention of the other Pinots, but bottled earlier with less new oak.

 Carrick Rosé image

Carrick Rosé

Carrick Vineyards, Bannockburn, Central Otago

What better wine to enjoy then one which feels like drinking summer! Our Rosé, draws inspiration from the Provence Rosés of the South of France, pale salmon in colour, with a fine and refreshing acidity.

Best when chilled, it is a perfect lunchtime wine or as an appetizer with nibbles.

Bright, fresh and elegant, the delightfully expressed bouquet shows raspberry, cranberry, nectarine and lemon zest aromas, followed by a juicy palate that’s vibrant and crisp. It’s immediately appealing with lovely fruit purity and finely textured mouthfeel. At its best: now to2021. - Sam Kim, Wine Orbit

Carrick Bannockburn Pinot Gris image

Carrick Bannockburn Pinot Gris

Carrick Vineyards, Bannockburn, Central Otago

Our Pinot Gris has a textural element on the palate that is reflective of an Alsatian style whilst retaining a clean acidity that is the hallmark of our windblown glacial soils on the Cairnmuir terraces in Bannockburn. Notes of pear and fresh Braeburn apples are present, balanced by a hint of clove spice.

Delicious with a pear and walnut salad.

The wine is subtle and poised on the nose showing fresh pear, apple and lime peel characters with a lovely savoury nuance. It’s focused and elegantly weighted on the palate with textural mouthfeel and crisp acidity, finishing lingering and mouth-watering. At its best: now to 2023. - Sam Kim, Wine Orbit

Carrick Dry Riesling image

Carrick Dry Riesling

Arthur's Vineyard, Bannockburn, Central Otago

Carrick's wines are all about texture. We look to produce a diverse range of wines that will accompany the beautiful creations produced in the restaurant on site at Carrick. The 2017 Dry Riesling is mineral by nature, with aromatics that would lead you to think the wine was heavier on the palate. When in fact the natural acidity obtained from our vineyards helps to deliver a long refreshing finish.

A palate cleansing wine that screams out for oysters or diamond clams.

 Carrick Bannockburn Chardonnay image

Carrick Bannockburn Chardonnay

Carrick Vineyards, Bannockburn, Central Otago

This is classic Chardonnay, inviting and unctuous. It is barrel fermented, and aged in oak for around 10 months, which gives the wine time to develop the delicious nutty and biscuity characters. Perfect for enjoying slightly chilled with cheese, a creamy pasta or just by itself after a long day.

Barrel-fermented chardonnay using indigenous yeasts. An intriguing wine with white peach, grapefruit, ginger and a suggestion of mandarin blossom. Smooth-textured wine. Fruity acidity gives the wine energy and a lingering finish. Bob Campbell, © The Real Review

Carrick Josephine Riesling image

Carrick Josephine Riesling

Bannockburn

The Josephine Riesling had its origins in our private (pirate) bottlings of 2004 and 2005 where we found that an early bottling of Riesling with higher residual sugar was both balanced and delicious. It's now very much part of our established range.

Billet-Doux image

Billet-Doux

Bannockburn

The Billet-Doux is a Pinot Noir, made similarly to our other Pinots, but without any addition of Sulphur at arrival into the winery, or any part of the process, including bottling.

"Fascinating nose, humus, a wild and feral quality; delicious purity of fruit. Silky and textural entry with a little prickle on the tongue, showcasing loganberry, plum and wood smoke with nice chewiness from the tannins. Time adds dark chocolate and charcuterie to the brightness and vivacity, while the tannins are very fine. Rather delicious. No sulphur added."

Electric No. 1 image

Electric No. 1

Bannockburn

Electric No 1 is a field blend incorporating all white varieties grown at Carrick, including the odd rogue vine that has appeared courtesy of our nurserymen. Field blends are common in Portugal where vineyards rather than being planted uniformly by variety, are planted with different varieties side by side. There are over 250 indigenous varieties in Portugal, so you can imagine the combinations could be endless. Here it’s not strictly true that the vines are planted next to one another, but rather that we harvested Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, Pinot Gris and Chardonnay on the same day, pressed them together and fermented them as one in old oak barrels.

Being a blend there is no outstanding varietal character and the textural qualities dominate this wine. It’s dry, complex and intriguing. Named after a gold dredge which once worked the Kawarau River, not too far from where vines are now planted. Enjoy with pasta, fish, hard cheeses or just by itself as an evening refresher.

The Death of Von Tempsky image

The Death of Von Tempsky

Bannockburn

The Death of Von Tempsky ( at Te Ngutu o Te Manu ) is a natural wine made with white grapes grown on the Cairnmuir Vineyard. It's name comes from a lithograph - the work of New Zealand printmaker Marion McGuire. It is preservative free.

"100% riesling. Perfume flows from the glass — fruit blossom, apple, citrus rind, nuts, tanginess. Volume in the mouth with preserved lemon, apple, nectarine, just ripe greengage plum, a little fungi hint with time. The tannins and phenolics give real chewiness that is great with food, while there’s underlying freshness and brightness with its long, citrus driven finish. Delicious."

Carrick Cairnmuir Terraces EBM Chardonnay image

Carrick Cairnmuir Terraces EBM Chardonnay

Carrick Vineyards, Bannockburn, Central Otago

The Cairnmuir Terraces EBM Chardonnay is our top Chardonnay and the name refers to the extended time it spends in barrel before bottling - Extended Barrel Maturation. Hand-picked from fruit grown on the top and lower terraces of our Cairnmuir road vineyard. It is a textural wine with a lovely citrus line and unctuous peach toast notes. Think large glass in front of the fire type of wine. Or a wine to impress at a dinner party. We think it tastes great with roast chicken and mushroom risotto.

EBM = 'extended barrel maturation'. Leesy and rich notes initially, a touch of Brazil nut butteriness (though still only 15% new oak), the extended aging in barrel rounding the wine and perhaps softening the aromatics, though still quite punchy and figgy, intense and rich, though that acidity still cuts through wonderfully, real tang and verve into a long finish. - Tom Cannavan, Wine Pages

Carrick The Magnetic Pinot Noir image

Carrick The Magnetic Pinot Noir

Carrick Vineyards, Bannockburn, Central Otago

Named after a Kawarau River gold dredge, the Carrick Magnetic Pinot Noir is a single block, single variety and single clone wine. Unique and interesting, it is only sold direct to customers through our cellar door and wine club. The clone is Abel, said to be a cutting smuggled into the country from a famed Burgundian estate and subsequently confiscated by one Malcolm Abel. Moonlighting as a winemaker in his spare time, Abel a customs officer saw the potential in the cutting and decided to propagate the clone. It is this unique chain of events which then ultimately lead us to plant the Abel clone on a small 0.34ha plot in 2008.

Carrick Excelsior Pinot Noir image

Carrick Excelsior Pinot Noir

Carrick Vineyards, Bannockburn, Central Otago

Carrick Excelsior - named for the coal seam which was mined during the goldrush and lies beneath the Carrick Vineyards - is our finest expression of Pinot Noir. It is derived from a particular parcel of older vines on our Cairnmuir Vineyard, now 25 years old, which are grown on their own roots, without rootstock. Which we believe gives the vines are greater connection to the soil they are grown in. Only made in great years, and one of only two wines we make which stays in barrel over harvest for a total of 18 months.

It is complex, intense, layered and persistent.
