Carrick Chardonnay 2006 $25.50
The 2006 Chardonnay is subtle blend of stone fruit aromas, nectarine and white peach with notes of almond and bees wax. The palate has good texture and a wide range of flavour components with lees influence, mineral notes, barrel, vanilla, almonds and primary fruit characters all evident. The flavours are balanced and well integrated, with the natural acidity giving structure, length and a clean finish.
The wine has subtlety and balance that will compliment a good meal but we also endorse it as an accompaniment to conversation and idle periods in life.
We expect the 2006 Chardonnay to be at its best between two and seven years from the harvest date.
Carrick Pinot Gris 2007 $25.50
The Carrick 2007 Pinot Gris is a rich wine with good texture and ripe fruit characters. Aromatically there are ripe pears, red apples and old fashioned roses. The flavours on the palate are of red apples and pears again, as well as some sweet floral notes and a touch of almond. The wine has a pleasing weight and viscosity balanced by a clean finish; this makes it an excellent complement to food.
Carrick Pinot Noir 2006 $45.00
The 2006 vintage was characterised by an early harvest of moderate yields. Bunch weights were around 100 grams. The weather was warm throughout the season with an early bud break and a mild December provided good fruit set and the average bunch weights. Autumn was mild and dry providing ripe fruit with great flavour intensity.
The vineyard work is mainly by hand – pruning, leaf plucking, shoot thinning and harvesting - and the wine is made in small open fermenters. Typically, a pre-ferment cold soak of 5 days, punch downs through fermentation then 3 – 5 days extended maceration. About 70% of the lots rely on indigenous yeasts. In 2005 there was a minimal whole bunch component. All the wine goes to barrel, about 30% new, all French. Malolactic fermentation is in the spring - the lots are then selected, blended, given a light filtration for clarity and were bottled in June 2007.
Tasting Notes:
The wine is exhibits subdued aromas of red berries, briar and oak. On the palate it is rich, dense and concentrated. The wine is showing a similar evolution to the 2002 vintage, where black cherries, boysenberries and blackberries are the dominant fruit flavours. Like the 2002 we expect the wine to show complexity and refinement and to cellar well.
The best parcels of grapes from selected sites in the vineyard are chosen for this wine. The fine integrated tannins give structure and length and it will develop into a seamless wine with opulent fruit, structure and power.
Carrick Sauvignon Blanc 2007 $19.50
The Carrick 2007 Sauvignon Blanc has the classic notes of gooseberries and capsicums with a hint of passionfruit and pineapple. There are layers of minerality and from the barrel ferment portion there is a textural quality from the longer lees contact. These subtle notes mingle well with the gooseberry characters adding extra dimensions to the palate. The wine is medium bodied with good length and a crisp, clean finish.
This is a great lunch wine and goes well with a range of food, especially seafood.
Carrick Unravelled Pinot Noir 2004 $24.50
The name is a play on our Carrick Bend Knot and represents a marketing decision to produce a very reasonably priced uncomplicated, upfront ("unravelled!"), enjoyable wine, with recognisable black cherry fruit and ready to drink now.
Carrick, Cairnmuir Terraces Extended Barrel Maturation 2004 Chardonnay $32.50
From our low cropping Mendoza grapes our EBM Chardonnay has occupied a prime part of our cellar for eighteen months. This wine has been fermented with indigenous yeasts and lees aged for eighteen months before being bottled. The resulting wine demonstrates opulence, and refinement. Skilful oak handling and natural fresh acidity results in a wine that is mouth filling with a mealy complex bouquet and taste ending with a creamy, rounded finish. Recognised as being one of the top Chardonnays from Central Otago, Carrick Cairnmuir Terraces EBM is only available through the cellar door.
Carrick Riesling 2007 $20.50
The aromas are of honeysuckle and citrus flowers with some subtle mineral notes. On the palate there are flavours of lemon meringue pie, limes and a core of green fruits and citrus. The fine natural acidity and mineral core is nicely balanced by the residual grape sugar to give both weight and a long clean finish.
Josephine Riesling 2006 (Limited supply) "Sweet Reserve"
$30.00
In the last couple of years we have bottled a small amount of sweeter Riesling for 'research purposes'. This is our first commercial release of this style. The aromas are mandarin, citrus blossom and jasmine with some subtle mineral notes. On the palate the residual sugar gives a great mouthful of limes and mandarin with the lime pith, mineral notes and low pH giving structure and balance leading on to a surprisingly clean finish.
We suggest serving Carrick Josephine as an aperitif, with entrées, desserts or cheese.
